THE REST OF THE STORY ...

The objective of this project was to create a luxurious master bath space that maximized storage within a footprint that was limited. This project was a newly-constructed home on the site of the owners original 1920's beach house. The goal of the project was to infuse elements of the original beach house into the home, along with a coastal vibe into the space for year round use.

The biggest challenges were material desires and space constraints. The initial element that inspired the bath was the Robin's egg blue concrete counter top. It was a bold choice and being able to pair it with options that still maintained a level of sophistication and luxury was key. Showplace's variety of features and flexibility in customization made maximizing storage easy with the bath's reduced footprint.

The final design is a beautiful marriage of contemporary and classic materials, merged with total function. The simple lines of the Pierce door with the charm of the beaded inset nods to the original 20's era home. The design team quickly determined that two sinks were not desired, which enabled the incorporation of his and hers towers at the counter level. The wide, integrated, concrete sink allows for ease of use together and maximizes storage space within the nine and a half feet of cabinet space. The design team utilized such features as flanking tall vanity pull outs, ample drawer space with integrated outlet inside for the homeowners' hair dryer, and the aforementioned towers for medicine storage. Additionally, the design team incorporated a base cabinet with integrated end panel and finished back to conceal the toilet which provides convenient linen storage, accessible from the shower.

The homeowners love the uniqueness, character, color, and personality that are infused into every level of this home and the master bath is no exception.

The design team loves the contrast of modern elements with classic materials. Layering tone on tone patterns with unexpected pops of contrast, the integration of the mirror within the cabinetry components, warm and cool wood tones, makes everything feel like one cohesive unit.

The fact that the integration of materials totally spoke to the homeowners and their needs, both aesthetically and down to the function of every drawer and door, was the main factor in the Showplace selection.

This project is filled with soul, both new and old. The property has been the homeowners' summer destination for more than 25 years and when they decided to make it their permanent home, they didn't want to erase all of the memories made. We stripped the original home of a lot of its featured woodwork, fixtures, and doors before demolition and re-used it in the newly-constructed space. This infusion of salvaged material is a common thread among the approx. 4300 square-foot home. Nearly every space has an element or adaptation of the original home or family legacy.

COMMENTS FROM OUR JUDGES ...

The blue counter tops were unexpected! You did a nice job working with the clients' unique wishes.

Incorporating the old doors into the new space is a nice touch. Letting the doors, and counter tops, pop while everything else is tone on tone was a nice touch.

The blue counters are bold, but have a beautiful story to these homeowners. The bump out and symmetry of the vanity is beautiful.
