From Paul’s Desk
By Paul Sova, CEO of Showplace Cabinetry
After a spring of uncertainty and economic shutdown, things are heating up this summer. Here at Showplace, we’re seeing a strong surge of cabinet orders—and we’re gearing up for action.
Typically, the months of July and August are a slow period in our industry, as vacations and summer recreation take the family focus away from home improvement. This year is very different. As people are spending more time in their homes, those long-planned upgrades to kitchens and baths have become more important. Some projects were delayed during the spring months, resulting in a pent-up demand for remodeling now. Other families are finding they have a bit more money this year to spend on making their surroundings more beautiful or functional, since they haven’t been spending on leisure travel, dining out and resort vacations.
We’re hearing reports from around the country that the building and remodeling sectors of the economy are up. One of the factors is low interest rates on mortgages and home improvement loans; another may be the knowledge that an investment in kitchen and bath upgrades improves the value and salability of anyone’s home. Whatever the reason, consumers are bringing their ideas and designs into cabinet showrooms—and Showplace orders are up.
No one can predict what the rest of the year will bring, but at Showplace Cabinetry, we’re advancing with confidence. We’re ramping up hiring, adding new equipment and currently working overtime to produce cabinetry with the quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail our dealers have come to expect. We’re maintaining our on-time shipping schedules and rolling out new products throughout the year to give consumers even greater choices in upgrading their homes.
We’re betting on consumers and their confidence in the future, along with evidence that builders around the country are digging foundations, tackling major remodeling projects and demanding more cabinets. These indicators are solid reasons for optimism, for our industry and our country.
