A Bright New Chapter
This kitchen transformation is proof that a great layout never goes out of style—it just needs the right cabinetry to bring it to life. Once defined by 1990s yellow oak cabinets and floors, the space felt dark, heavy, and dated. The footprint worked, but the aesthetic needed a complete refresh.
The update began with cabinetry. The perimeter now features painted cabinets in Pure White that instantly brighten and open the room, creating a crisp, clean backdrop. Anchoring the space is a stunning maple island finished in a warm Cashew stain, adding contrast, warmth, and that inviting “cozy but bright” balance every traditional kitchen strives for.
While the core layout remained intact, thoughtful appliance relocation improved the kitchen’s working flow, enhancing everyday functionality.
The true showstopper, however, is the built-in hutch integrated into the perimeter cabinetry. Crafted in the same maple as the island, this feature creates a beautiful focal point and offers an elegant display space for serving dishes. It’s a detail that elevates the entire design and embodies the heart of a gorgeous, traditional kitchen.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful cabinetry choices can completely redefine a space without reinventing the floorplan.
