Warm Wood with Water Views

This kitchen transformation began with one major change: replacing a large peninsula with a spacious island. Opening up the layout immediately improved flow and created a more welcoming space for hosting friends and family.

The home already featured medium-light wood flooring and trim, so instead of changing it, the owners embraced it, but with a modern twist. Hickory cabinetry was selected in a sleeker, updated profile to complement the home’s warmth while delivering the clean lines the homeowners preferred.

To create contrast and visual depth, the island was finished in Midnight on hickory, grounding the space and adding a bold focal point. A charcoal quartz countertop further enhances the modern aesthetic while tying together the lighter perimeter cabinetry and darker island.

For added character, the homeowners selected a distinctive wood slab for the bar top, introducing organic texture and personality. A Tabor-style wall detail brings even more dimension to the space, creating subtle architectural interest without overwhelming the design.

The result is a kitchen that feels cohesive, modern, and perfectly suited for gathering; layered with warmth, contrast, and thoughtful detail throughout.
