Dysfunctional to Divine
In this existing home, a spacious footprint belied the cramped and dysfunctional kitchen and adjoining hearth area. The challenge lay in the size and location of the front-facing windows, prioritizing symmetry for the homeowner. Convincing them to lower the windows enabled the designer to optimize cabinet space, unlocking the layout’s potential.
A gut renovation allowed for architectural enhancements, including an arched entry to the kitchen and a slatboard surround for the hearth wall. A custom-built curved hood, adorned with iridescent tile, harmonized with the Montana finish on cherry cabinets, evoking the desired “Colorado” vibe. This transformation encapsulates the essence of functional elegance, marrying architectural detail with rustic charm for a truly inspired living space.
