Unique Sophistication
A younger couple with two growing boys needed to upsize to a larger home with more property. They settled on a home built in the late 90’s with an original, oddly designed kitchen with some strange features. They knew and agreed when they purchased this home that sooner than later, the kitchen needed a complete redesign. The mom was the chef, so she needed more efficient cooking appliances and everyday functionality that the current kitchen lacked. The dad wanted a robust coffee bar and a butler’s pantry that provided much needed respite at the end of a long day.
Replacing a small window with an eight foot wide by four foot high picture window over the sink made a truly dramatic difference. It brought in the natural daylight and provided a wonderful view of their beautiful backyard. The installation of Showplace, Sterling style cabinets, in Heron Plume color for the perimeter cabinets and Thunder in Maple as an accent on the hood and island, worked beautifully together. The Thunder finish continues into the Butlers Pantry to create rhythm and harmony between both spaces. Floating shelves above the butler pantry base cabinets brings an updated look and modern approach to the space.
Every component of the working area in this kitchen is loaded with storage accessories and function. The homeowners love the accessibility and efficiency of the flow throughout. Lift doors above the refrigerators are fully engaged to storage, as are the blind base cabinets with the kidney shaped pullouts, which are loaded with pots and pans, as are the massive 2 drawer base cabs in the island. The butlers pantry was updated with floating shelves that functioned as wine glass holders. The mom of the house is fond of reminding her boys, watching TV in the adjoining family room, that her kitchen is “spectacular!!”
