Lakeside Retreat
The homeowners’ existing kitchen was filled with dark, heavy oak cabinetry. They wanted to brighten up their kitchen, and make their lake home feel more welcoming. Although their tastes are more traditional in nature, they agreed that a pop of color was just what this kitchen needed.
Both owners are avid cooks and like to work in the kitchen together. The challenge was to incorporate their chosen appliances, create adequate workspace for both cooks and be sure to have organized storage spaces. They also host family gatherings on a regular basis, so it was important to have a space with not only an efficient work flow, but also a space perfect for entertaining.
The owners are taking advantage of two work stations within the kitchen – one for the baker and one for the cook. Surrounding the cooktop, there are plenty of storage and organizational accessories like pan storage in the deep lower drawers, and a pull-out utensil and knife storage. The baking area has a large workspace for rolling out cookies on the island, easy access to the built in oven, and a mixer lift cabinet to completes the space.
Even though the owners appreciate all of the options tailored for their love of cooking and baking, they really love how bright and cheery the space is, including one of their favorite options: glass in the upper doors used for seasonal décor.
