Lake House

This project involved a waterfront property with predefined boundaries for the structure which resulted in the homeowners sacrificing the lake views from the kitchen, and reserving them for the great room. The homeowners understood that regardless of magnificent views from other areas of the house, family and guests congregate in the kitchen. Additionally, one of the primary entrances to the home entered into the “landlocked” kitchen. The objective was to design the project in such a way that people entering were awestruck by the room itself.

The homeowners wanted the design to focus on simplicity, functionality, and elegance. The varying heights of the cabinetry against the adjacent moldings and high ceilings became the focal point. While the majority of the lighting is functional, the in-cabinet lighting steals the show in the evenings.

One of the favorite aspects of this space is the hutch wall. The door openings to the left and right of this section are part of a long visual line (almost hallway like) from the front to the back of the residence. The hutch cabinets conjoin this hallway-like area with the kitchen.

This kitchen design won Honorable Mention in the Transitional Kitchen category of our 2019 Design Contest.
